East London is experiencing a huge regeneration with the construction of a new Olympic Park. One of London's Most Economically depressed areas, East London has been the target of a major regeneration for years and have the acreage needed for re-development. The 500 acre site will house nine sporting venues, a media center and an Olympic Village Providing accommodation for all of the athletes. Located at the center of the park will be an athletics stadium seat 80.000 Which will be the setting for the opening and closing ceremonies.Also planned is an aquatics center, a hockey center, a velopark (cycling center) and four multi-sports arenas for fencing, volleyball, basketball and handball. Other sport centers around London will be used for games such as football matches at the new Wembley Stadium, tennis at Wimbledon and archery at Lord's Cricket Ground. Many of London's parks will be called into action. Greenwich Park will hold the equestrian events, while the Triathlon and open water swimming will take place in Hyde Park. The Olympic Village will be converted into apartments and the Olympic parks will become the largest urban park in Europe.East London TransitTransportation around London is being extended and improved in order to accommodate the 500.000 spectators expected to travel to the Olympic Park each day. Many visitors are expected to travel on the Javelin, a high-speed commuter train. By the end of 2009, a total of 29 trains are expected to be in service. The Docklands Light Railway is under construction and Will Provide direct access to the Olympic Park. In 2001, the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee signed an agreement that all future host of the Olympic Games will agree to host the Paralympic games as well. In the Paralympic Games, athletes with physical disabilities are able to compete in Alpine Skiing, Athletics, Biathlon, Cross-Country Skiing, Ice Sledge Hockey, Powerlifting, Shooting, and Swimming.
